Opening:
Our new shop
as a home for everyone who loves music

Over 10,000 m² of passion for music

A lot has been happening here in Treppendorf. Anyone who knows Thomann knows that there is always something being built, expanded or improved. Since 2021, much of that work has focused on where Thomann began: our shop.

What started as the small music shop Hans Thomann Senior opened in his parents’ home in 1954 has now become the biggest music shop in the world. The first milestone on this journey came in June 2023 with the opening of the first new section of the building. Covering around 800 m², it became the new home of our drums and brass departments. Since then, visitors have been able to try out around 2,000 instruments there — including Europe’s largest display of low brass and tubas, as well as expanded areas for cymbals, snares and electronic drums.

More space for more music

After several years of planning, construction, moving departments and setting everything up, we have now reached an important milestone: the second phase of our shop transformation is complete — and the new shop area is officially open. The newly opened spaces bring even more instruments, more atmosphere and more possibilities to our shop. Try things out, compare, get expert advice, find inspiration: this shop was built for you.

The new building is especially visible in the redesigned showroom areas. Our strings department has grown from 180 to 900 m² and now features around 1,650 instruments. Harps, organs and keys also have significantly more room, from silent pianos and digital grands to stage pianos and synthesizers. Once the third construction phase is completed, the Keyboard Area will round off the section for digital keyboard instruments.

For recording, producing and electronic music, there is now a Neumann Flagship Store, a professional studio area and a Dolby Atmos room for immersive 3D audio experiences. This is complemented by workshops on 3D audio, recording and modern studio technology.

Acoustic guitars are also taking centre stage: Martin Guitars and Taylor Guitars are each represented with their own flagship stores, while the classical guitar display has grown from 85 to around 400 models. Also new are dedicated areas for ukuleles and bluegrass instruments.

Another new highlight is our museum area, designed by Gabriele Röder-Thomann with great attention to detail. It tells the story of the Thomann family through numerous relics from the past, as well as video clips featuring interviews and personal stories.

In addition, the new building offers extra seating, including a grandstand in the atrium, as well as a merch and snack corner.

Keep the Music Playing

Overall, our space is growing from around 5,200 m² to more than 10,000 m² of showroom, retail and storage space. But we have not only become bigger — we have also become better, especially when it comes to energy-efficient refurbishment, improved insulation, modern window systems and accessibility.

With the completion of the second construction phase, the new shop building is now finished. The new areas are open and ready to be discovered. But the journey is not quite over yet: the third construction phase will now focus on renovating and modernising existing areas.

So the shop will keep moving forward. And honestly, anything else just wouldn’t be Thomann. Wanna be part of our journey?
