We’ve pulled a few strings
With the opening of our new store areas, our Strings Department has also found a new home, and on a completely different scale. Anyone who remembers the old department will probably picture a small, cosy room where around 600 instruments were displayed across 180 square metres, including roughly 130 violins.
Today, our string instruments have far more space to shine, along with many more ways to present and explore them. The entire department has grown to 900 square metres, around 650 of which are dedicated purely to the showroom. That means the new department offers almost four times as much space as before and, above all, room for a much wider selection.
1,650 instruments waiting to be played
Around 1,650 instruments are waiting to be tried out in the new Strings Department. The current selection includes 141 acoustic violins, 70 cellos, 44 violas and 33 double basses, as well as electric string instruments, around 70 world instruments and 25 harps.
Prices range from beginner instruments at €69 to high-end master instruments at €37,000, so there is something for everyone, from first-time players to experienced professionals. And because every instrument deserves the right setting, many of the different instrument groups now have their own dedicated areas and specially designed rooms.
Masterclass: A curated collection by renowned luthiers
A special part of the department is dedicated to our Masterclass instruments. Here, our Strings team presents a carefully curated selection of high-quality violins, violas, cellos and double basses. This includes instruments by makers such as Leonhardt and Radke, who personally introduced their instruments to our specialist team.
The result is a dedicated space for anyone looking for an instrument with a distinctive sound and exceptional craftsmanship, and who wants to take the time to find the right one.
From first strings to Masterclass
Just as every instrument is different, so are the people who come to us and what they are looking for. Some are just starting to learn the violin, while others are searching for a new instrument for the orchestra or already have a very clear idea of the sound, response and playing feel they want.
With string instruments in particular, it is often the subtle differences that make all the difference. How does the instrument feel in your hands? How does it respond to the bow? And how does its sound change with different playing styles? That is why the new department offers not only a wide selection, but also the time, space and calm you need to try instruments properly and compare them side by side.
Our customers are supported by a Strings team of seven specialists. Advice is currently available in German, English, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Chinese and Persian.
An entire floor filled with sound
The Strings Department shares the new floor with our world instruments, harps and organs, bringing together a wide range of acoustic instruments, playing styles and sound worlds in one place.
What was once a small strings room has become a spacious department with a much wider selection, dedicated areas and plenty of room for personal advice. Most importantly, it is now a place where instruments can be heard, felt and experienced.
Because in the end, it is not just about more space or more instruments. It is about that moment when an instrument simply feels right, and a first note turns into a new passion.
