A life dedicated to music and the region
On Friday, May 9, 2025, our CEO Hans Thomann was appointed an honorary citizen of Burgebrach. This decision was unanimously made by the local council and honors a life’s work that extends far beyond the borders of our Franconian homeland. In a warm and joyful atmosphere, the event was celebrated with his family, partners, employees, and political representatives, with laughter and a few tears of emotion. Even Simon Phillips, the world-renowned drummer, made sure to stop by after his drum workshop at the campus in Treppendorf to personally congratulate Hans Thomann.
“Here I was born, here I live, here I will stay“
With the awarding of the honorary citizenship, the municipality of Burgebrach honors Hans Thomann as a successful entrepreneur who has contributed in many ways to the positive development of the region. His story is an example of the successful combination of tradition and innovation, of passion and responsibility. The award is not only an acknowledgment of Hans Thomann’s entrepreneurial achievements but also of his commitment and connection to his hometown.
Passion For Music
“‘70 years of Thomann – that’s more than just a number. It’s a journey shaped by a deep passion for music and constant development,” explains Johannes Maciejonczyk, Mayor of Burgebrach. “Hans Thomann didn’t just build a store, he created an institution that connects people around the world and has significantly influenced the music scene.” Founded as a regional music shop by his father, Hans Thomann has transformed the company into the world’s largest e-commerce business for instruments and music equipment. With his courage, vision, and passion, he led the company into the future, without forgetting his roots. “The company may have grown beyond recognition, but the core idea is still the same: making music accessible to people. That we’ve managed to do this until today – we’ve all worked towards it, and for that, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart,” Hans Thomann said in a speech to the around 150 guests.
A business owner with social responsibility
“However, with economic success also comes social responsibility. With the Hans Thomann Foundation, established in 2017, musical education for children and young people is supported, and the passion for music is sparked in the next generation. Furthermore, in 2024, Hans Thomann founded the Thomann Corporate Foundation, which, through its structure, ensures the long-term survival of the company while also guaranteeing jobs for the future.
The great success of Thomann also lies in its strong connection with its employees. Over 1,800 people not only find a secure job here but also an environment where innovation and teamwork are promoted. As Stefan Heidbreder, Managing Director of the Family Foundation, aptly said to Hans Thomann: “You once told me that every department here has its own soul. But the soul of the whole company, that’s you, dear Hans.”
An inspiration for an entire generation
In his closing words, Stefan Heidbreder summed it up: “With today’s honor, your homeland pays you its highest respect. The gateway to the Steigerwald today honors a man who has himself opened gates. Gates to new markets, to innovative business models, and to a corporate culture that places people at the center. On behalf of the Family Business Foundation, but also personally, I sincerely congratulate you on this special award. You are not only an outstanding entrepreneur, but you are also a role model for an entire generation, and if I may make one final personal remark: You’re simply a great guy.”
