Recap: Campus Workshops
in May & June

Where Music Comes Together – Bass, Brass & Guitar!

In May and June, we once again hosted a series of action-packed workshops full of expert knowledge, cool insights, and tons of inspiration from real pros here in Treppendorf. If you couldn’t make it – don’t worry! Here’s a look back at the highlights.

Line6 HX Stomp Clinic with Ian Martin Allison & Janek Gwizdala

On May 31, internationally acclaimed bass virtuosos Ian Martin Allison and Janek Gwizdala took a deep dive into the Line6 HX Stomp. In their two-hour workshop, they demonstrated how to get the most out of this compact effects pedal and how to create your own unique sound using its 300+ effects and amp models. But it wasn’t just about sound design – they also shared practical playing techniques and musical tips to take your bass playing to the next level. In a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, Ian and Janek showed how to smartly integrate the HX Stomp – the “little brother” of the Helix – with mics, amps, and pedals. Perfect for anyone wanting to get more from their setup.

Brass Workshop with Michael Müller from Melton Meinl Weston

On June 3, brass player Michael Müller joined us for two days on campus. A specialist in low brass and Bohemian-style ensembles, he led a hands-on workshop focused on breathing, tone, and high-range performance on tenor horn, baritone, and euphonium. Michael demonstrated how to use targeted breathing techniques to produce a full, consistent tone and tackle the high register with confidence. With plenty of exercises and direct tips on embouchure and technique, he encouraged participants in this interactive session to push their limits – until fingers and lips were on fire! The next day, one-on-one coaching sessions allowed participants to work on their individual challenges, while Michael shared valuable insights from his performing and teaching experience.

Living Lakewood 2025 – Showcase with Martin Seeliger and Benni Freibott

On June 6, our amphitheater hosted a deep dive into the world of acoustic guitars with Martin Seeliger – founder and master luthier of Lakewood – and internationally renowned guitarist Benni Freibott. Martin spoke passionately and openly about how Lakewood guitars are crafted in their Buseck workshop – from selecting premium tonewoods to the fine details of craftsmanship, all the way to the finished sound sculpture. Particularly fascinating were his thoughts on the philosophy behind guitar building, such as why he’s not a fan of “roasting” tonewoods and his appreciation for the sound of cypress. Meanwhile, Benni wowed us with his expressive playing and impressive technique. Attendees even had a chance to win awesome prizes – including a custom-made Lakewood Custom Shop guitar. The evening wrapped up with the opportunity to try a wide range of Lakewood guitars on-site and experience their exceptional quality firsthand.

All in all, these were three truly amazing events that showed just how much music, expertise, and passion come together at Thomann. And this is only the beginning – we’re already planning our next workshops, sessions, and events. So keep an eye out and don’t miss the next one. We can’t wait to meet you in person and rock out together!
